San Antonio’s Retama Park is a relatively young establishment having opened in 1995. The main dirt track of the park is a 1 mile oval. An inner turf course of 7 furlongs is used for certain races. A calendar full of brilliant thoroughbred, quarter horse and arabian racing events ensures that racegoers are always satisfied. The thoroughbred horse racing season begins in September and includes races such as the Lakeway Stakes, Retama Turf Breeders’ Cup, Darby’s Daughter Texas Stallion Stakes, Selma Stakes, Chick Lang Jr Memorial Stakes and Fiesta Mile Stakes. Thrilling Quarter horse events are the La Villita Stakes, The Live Oak Handicap, Retama Park Futurity, San Marcos Handicap, Ben E Keith Stakes, King William Handicap, Retama Park Derby, Texas Horse Racing Hall of Fame Stakes and others. Arabian horse racing fans can enjoy the Independence Sprint, Tiki Diablo Hall of Fame Classic, Texas Arabian Derby, Arabian Distaff Stakes and more.
Retama Park race track opens every day at 10:30 am. Simulcast racing is held all through the year except on Christmas. Simulcast wagering on thoroughbred, quarter horse and greyhound racing is possible on over 20 tracks each day of the week. The park offers a number of wagering options such as Win, Show, Superfecta, Pick 3, Place, Daily Double and others. Patrons do not want to miss a visit to the Race Book & Sports Bar.
