Oregon Racetracks
Located on the Pacific coast of the United States, the State of Oregon has a fascinating history, in which horses were often the unsung heroes. Today, at the Portland Meadows horse racing track in Portland, Oregon, the horses on the track are without a doubt the center of attention as they thunder down the track toward the finish line. Portland Meadows delivers thrilling live horse racing action during the race season, with races across the country being screened via simulcast television all year round.
Established in 1933, the Oregon Racing Commission has consistently undertaken to regulate and facilitate the multiple facets of the pari-mutuel industry in the State of Oregon. Quarter horse racing in Oregon is closely monitored by the Oregon Quarter Horse Racing Association (OQHRA), which, in its own words, has the mission “to provide racing opportunities for all quarter horse owners, breeders, stallion owners and traners participating in the state of Oregon.” The association also represents its members interests before the Oregon Legislature, while the Oregon Racing Commission aims to promote quarter horse racing with commercial race tracks, county fairs, the media and general public, thereby serving the interest of fans, owners and breeders.
