Thistledown Horse Racing Track in Ohio

Thistledown Racetrack in Ohio's North Randall, just outside Cleveland, is a popular thoroughbred racing establishment. Owned by Magna Entertainment Corporation, Thistledown offers an exciting calendar of live horse racing, a full simulcast schedule and top-class facilities. Boasting one of the longest thoroughbred racing seasons in North America, Thistledown is a fantastic racing venue.

Established in 1925, Thistledown came to be under the regulation of Ohio Racing Commission in 1931. Well-known as host to the Ohio Derby, Thistledown race track is a great venue. Interestingly, Thistledown is part of the Ohio 7/7 Program which runs live races at two locations in Ohio at the same time. Thistledown will run 7 at the same time as River Downs in summer. Then in September Beulah Park takes the place of River Downs.

Ohio’s Thistledown race track has a thoroughbred racing season running from April through to November. On Thistledown’s 128 acre property there is a 1 mile dirt oval track. Thistledown’s racing calendar is filled up with minor stakes and handicaps through the season, with it’s most important race being the Ohio Derby (Grade 2). Thoroughbred races run at Thistledown race track include the Angenora Stakes, Mike Rowland Memorial Handicap, Merry Time Stakes, Cleveland Gold Cup, George Lewis Memorial Stakes, North Randall Stakes, Miss Ohio Stakes, Loyalty Stakes, Emerald Necklace Stakes, Governor’s Buckeye Cup, Ohio Debutante Handicap, Mark Yagaour Stakes and others. The track opens daily at 11:30 am. Early Bird Wagering at Thistledown is available between 9:30 and 11:30 am at the pavilion. In addition to the exciting live thoroughbred racing, Thistledown race track is open for simulcasting the entire week and is open late on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.
