Raceway Park was constructed during the 1950’s as a car racing track. Later on it was transformed into a thoroughbred racing facility. Harness racing was first held at Toledo Raceway Park in 1962. A number of great harness racing names have competed here, including horses such as Ramblin’ Willie, Shady Daisy and Mack Lobell. Renowned horsemen to attend Raceway Park have included John Campbell, Doug Ackerman, Carl Allen, Chris Boring and Chuck Sylvester. Raceway Park was the first establishment in Ohio to offer an off-track betting parlor called Cedar Downs. Penn National Gaming took over ownership of Toledo Raceway Park in 2005. Ohio’s Raceway Park is well-known for the Buckeye-Wolverine Pace which takes place every year. In fact, the race has successfully predicted the outcome of the Ohio-Michigan football game with 75% accuracy. The harness racing track is also famed for the Ohio Sire Stakes, James Holmes Memorial and Hickory Lane Farm Matchmaker Pace hosted there.
Raceway Park has a 5/8 mile track. The post times are as follows: Saturdays at 7:00 pm; Sundays at 6:00 pm; and featured Wednesday in the meet at 6:30. The theater-style grandstand provides 2,100 seats for racegoers, and the Crazy Horse Bar with 200 seats is a great way to watch the race in comfort or whilst enjoying a delicious meal. Simulcast racing and wagering is held at Toledo Raceway Park throughout the week. Raceway Park is an unforgettable harness racing venue, hosting over a hundred meets each year.
