Belmont Park Race Track in New York
Located on Long Island just outside the New York City limits, Belmont Park is one of the country’s major thoroughbred horse-racing facilities. First opened in 1905, the facilities feature the largest dirt track in Thoroughbred racing. Besides offering great racing facilities, Belmont Park is also the home of the Belmont Stakes, which constitutes the third leg of the Triple Crown.
The main course at Belmont Park is a dirt track measuring 1 ½ miles in length. There are also an additional two turf courses – the Widener Turf Course which is 1 5/16 miles in length and the Inner Turf Course which is 1 3/16 Miles long. The park has seating for 32,941 people and has an attendance capacity of 90,000. There is enough parking for 18,500 cars and trackside dining for 2,300 people. The Garden Terrace Restaurant is the favourite for an elegant meal amongst racing greats.
Belmont Park has long been established as a prestigious racing venue, with elegant attire being a long standing tradition. While sports jackets and skirts are not forced upon the general public, those who honor the tradition are appreciated. In addition to this, a number of facilities are only available to those who are properly attired to promote the continuance of the tradition. Generally speaking, no shorts, jeans or other casual wear should be worn. Men should make use of suits or sports jackets with a collared shirt while women should wear dresses, skirts or slacks outfits. The keeping of this tradition certainly adds to the atmosphere and helps to maintain the Park’s reputation as a racing great.
Facilities at Belmont Park include binocular rentals, ATM machines, a coat check, personal handicapping stations, race replay centers, first aid and lost and found services. Such amenities help to ensure that visitors to this 430 acre racing center are well catered for and comfortable.
