Michigan Racetracks
Almost completely surrounded by four of the five Great Lakes of the United States, it comes as no surprise that Michigan is renowned for water-sports and boating. However, another form of sport that is popular and well supported in Michigan is horse racing, and the state is home to five first-class horse racing facilities. Hazel Park Raceway, located at 1650 E 10 Mile Road, Hazel Park, Michigan, has a superbly maintained track and is known for its vibrant atmosphere in which racegoers can enjoy both live and simulcast racing. First opened in 1949 as a dual-breed facility, Hazel Park Raceway became dedicated exclusively to harness racing in 1985, with live events taking place regularly from April to October each year and simulcast racing taking place every day of the week all year round. Other horse racing tracks in Michigan are the Pinnacle Race Course, Northville Downs, Sports Creek Raceway and Mount Pleasant Meadows.
Horse racing in Michigan is regulated by the Michigan Horse Racing Commission. In addition to ensuring that the integrity of the horse racing industry in the State is not compromised, the commission has the health and welfare of racehorses as a top priority, keeping all relevant parties up-to-date with regard to potential health threats and the latest breakthroughs in equine medicines and treatments.
