Delta Downs Horse Racing Track in Louisiana

Delta Downs Racetrack was opened during the 1970’s when it hosted several lesser-known race meetings. Shawn Scott purchased the establishment in the 1990’s, got the legal rights for slot machines and later sold it to Boyd Gaming, which made some much needed improvements.

Louisiana’s Delta Downs boasts a main oval track of 6 furlongs with chutes. The race track’s surface consists of a limestone base covered with a blend of Sabine river sand and clay. Twenty barns with 60 stalls and 10 tack rooms each can accommodate 1,200 horses. The race season at Delta Downs typically runs from October through to April for thoroughbreds and April to July for quarter horse racing, however there are often additional racing seasons. Off-track betting is possible year-round. Meets held at Delta Downs Racetrack include the Delta Downs Jackpot, Delta Princess, Firecracker Derby, Lee Berwick Futurity, Alabama Derby, Open Graduation, Alabama Futurity and Delta Downs Derby, amongst others. Simulcast racing is also available so that racegoers can enjoy top racing meets from around the country all year round.

Delta Downs Casino is home to some 1,200 slots, providing further entertainment for those who are interested. Concerts and other shows are frequently held at Louisiana’s Delta Downs Casino. The luxury Delta Downs Hotel contains 203 impressive rooms and when visitors feel hungry they can head off to the Food Court with its wide variety of restaurants to suit every taste.
