Anthony Downs Horse Racing Track in Kansas
Established in 1904, Anthony Downs is one of the best racing tracks in Kansas. The track is situated in Anthony, Kansas, and can be found at 521 East Sherman. Though the track has always featured both dog and horse racing, it is quarter horse racing which dominates the local race scene and sends waves of excitement through the air. In fact the annual races, which are held each year during July, are so popular that they have become a Mid-West Tradition.
Every year the beautiful, open-air grandstands are filled with hundreds of people as they take their place a mere six feet from the track and prepare to enjoy the exhilaration of the races. This close proximity to the track means that you can not only hear the immense thunder of hooves as the horses make their way down the home-run stretch, but you can actually feel it vibrate through your body as your favourite horse competes for first place. And at Anthony Downs, there is never a dull moment. The racing schedule is planned so that horse and dog races are alternated every fifteen minutes to ensure that there is plenty of action and plenty of opportunity to place a wager.
