Fairplex Park Horse Racing Track in California
Previously known as the Los Angeles County Fairgrounds, Fairplex Park is the home of the Los Angeles County Fair. It also hosts a number of educational, multicultural and entertainment events all year round, as well as a number of great horse races. The fairgrounds are run by the Los Angeles County Fair Association which ensures that the facilities are well maintained and organises many of the events held at the Park.
The grounds cover some 543 acres of land and roughly 325,000 square feet of indoor exhibit area. The race track has a suitably large grandstand, a 5/8 mile racetrack and a number of stables to cater to the needs of horses which are brought here for the races. Races take place every day of the week during the annual Los Angeles County Fair in September and last approximately two and a half weeks. During this time, Fairplex Park becomes the home of live thoroughbred racing and it enjoys great inter-track wagering as it covers races from Hollywood park, Santa Anita, Del Mar, Bay Meadows, Golden Gate Fields, Woodbine, Aqueduct and Los Alamitos. It also covers a number of quarter horse races and harness races from Los Alamitos and Sacramento.
Fairplex Park is better known amongst racehorse trainers as a great training yard since that is what the track is used for during the remainder of the year. There is plenty of stabling at the park and young thoroughbreds are able to strut their stuff without the fun and excitement of organised stakes races.
The Fairplex showgrounds also include a hotel, an equine auction complex, a child development center, plazas and picnic areas, a recreational vehicle park and 12 acres of carnival grounds amongst other things. You should definitely consider soaking up the atmosphere of the Los Angeles County Fair while enjoying a day at the races.
