Alameda County Fair Race Track in California
Perhaps the best part about spending a day at the races at the Alameda County Fair grounds is the bubbling atmosphere and friendly faces. Each year this great track enjoys a line-up of superb thoroughbred horse races which generally take place between June and July and correspond to the dates of the annual Alameda County Fair. In this way the racing programs makes up part of the fair festivities and larger crowds are drawn to the racetrack to enjoy the races.
The racetrack at the Alameda County Fair grounds is known as the Pleasanton Satellite Racing Facility and is located on Valley Avenue. It is most easily accessed through Gate 12 and an admission fee and parking fee is payable upon entry. Admission fees include free admission to the clubhouse and grandstand. The grandstand can seat as many as 6,608 and patrons can enjoy the facilities of the Turf Club, a snack counter, a fully-stocked bar and more than 300 simulcast TVs. There are also over 130 private workstations which are equipped with an individual TV.
The track itself at Pleasanton is a one mile oval with two chutes. One chute is two furlongs in length, with the other being six furlongs. It is about 60 ft wide and the home-run stretch is a spectacular 1,085 ft. There are roughly 700 stalls to accommodate the many horses which are brought to the track to participate in the races.
The Alameda County Fair grounds race track is situated on Pleasanton Ave, Pleasanton. The first pari-mutuel meeting to be held at the track took place in 1939, so the track has had a long and successful history.
