Oaklawn Jockey Club Horse Racing Track in Arkansas

Oaklawn Jockey Club, situated in Hot Springs Arkansas, is a premium horse racing venue. Offering everything from live racing to simulcast racing and Instant Racing, Oaklawn attracts a significant number of racegoers every year.

The inaugural race of the Oaklawn Jockey Club was run on 24 February 1905. Attracting about 3,000 eager horse racing fans, the race was won by Duelist who’s owner, John W. Schorr, became a champion owner in 1912 and 1914. Since that time, Oaklawn has grown in popularity. With a

season running from January through April, there is always something exciting happening. The

main track is a one mile oval track where many famous racehorses have galloped. Post times

are 1:30 pm on weekdays and Sundays and 1:05 pm on Saturdays. A number of exciting stakes

are hosted at Oaklawn Jockey Club, these include The Dixieland, American Beauty, Southwest,

Essex Handicap, Razorback Breeders’ Cup Handicap, Martha Washington, Azeri Breeders’ Cup,

Oaklawn Handicap, Count Fleet Sprint Handicap, Apple Blossom Handicap, Northern Spur

Breeders’ Cup and others.

When the live racing meets at Oaklawn park end, the simulcast season kicks off for

year-round action. Instant Racing has made it big at Oaklawn Jockey Club. The track has seen

much growth in this new arena. Many have been attracted to Oaklawn’s electronic pari-mutuel

system, providing year-round horse racing excitement.

Oaklawn Jockey Club has certainly had its share of exquisite horses and prestigious races. Amongst

the top famed thoroughbreds to have raced here are Smarty Jones, Lil ET, and Temperence Hill. Whitebrush ridden by Garth Patterson (119 lb) and owned by John Ed Anthony set the 1

mile record in 1984 at the Southwest Handicap with 1:34-2/5. The 2 miles 70 yards record was

set by Turntable in 1947. Ridden by Joseph Dattilo and owned by Mr. and Mrs. Wagner,

Turntable took the track by storm.
