Florida Racetracks
To most horsemen around the world, Florida is synonymous with world class horse racing. This is due to its longstanding relationship with the "Sport of Kings" and its numerous race tracks that have sprung up and developed since horse racing was introduced here.
Calder Racecourse, for instance, was inaugurated in the year 1971, and has become famous for racing events such as the Florida Stallion Stakes, Smile Sprint Handicap and the Miami Mile Breeder’s Cup Handicap. Gulfstream Park Race Track has enjoyed many exciting years of racing, serving as host to many international events since opening in 1939, including the Sunshine Millions Sprint, The Donn Handicap and the Florida Derby. Another noteworthy race track to mention is the Tampa Bay Downs Racecourse, established in 1926 and home to race meetings such as the Tampa Bay Derby and Florida Oaks.
Horse Racing in Florida is regulated by the Florida Division of Pari-Mutuel Wagering, which promotes the efficient and fair regulation of gaming at authorized pari-mutuel venues. When in Florida, ensure that you don’t miss out on the many local and international live horse racing events.
