Will Pyro Gain a Kentucky Derby Victory?
As the date for the anticipated Kentucky Derby draws closer, horses that are set to run in this magnificent racing event are being watched extremely closely. Their performance closer to the event will determine betting and influence wagering greatly. With some horses digging deep and delivering outstanding racing performances, contenders, such as Pyro, have secured their spot in the top ten favorites for the race.
Pyro is an American Thoroughbred that was born on 19 February 2005. Foaled out of the mare Wild Vision and sired by A.P. Indy, Pyro was born with magnificent potential and racing coursing through his veins. He was bred and is owned by Winchell Thoroughbreds LLC and has trainer Steve Asmussen at his side every step of the way. Even though Pyro was already on the list of the top horses that stand a good chance at winning the Kentucky Derby, he shot up into first place after an astonishing run at the Louisiana Derby that was held on the 8th of March 2008.
Pyro has come up against the legendary War Pass on more than one occasion. But, in a huge upset for War Pass fans, the mighty horse came in last place at the Tampa Bay Derby. War Pass and Pyro will once again be competing against each other in the Kentucky Derby, but this time round, Pyro is said to be the favorite.
At the Risen Star Stakes, Pyro was stone last at the top of the stretch, and running at quite a slow pace. But to everyone’s surprise, Pyro turned up the heat, weaved his way past the front runners and opened a two length space between him and the competition. Announcers gasped in astonishment, as he rocketed to the winning position. Pyro again had spectators at the edge of their seats at the Louisiana Derby, when it seemed that he was boxed in by the other horses and it looked impossible for him to find a gap, but he did. Jockey, Shaun Bridgmohan, steered him clear from the traffic, and allowed Pyro to do what he does best – win the race – leaving My Pal Charlie, Yankee Bravo and Blueberry Road, scrambling for their respective places.
The most recent top ten Kentucky Derby favorites have been updated, with Pyro in first place, followed by Cool Coal Man, Visionaire, Colonel John, Georgie Boy, El Gato Malo, War Pass, Denis of Cork, Court Vision and Fierce Wind. But as everyone in racing knows, favorites are exactly just that. No-one can predict what will happen at the Kentucky Derby, but one thing is certain, there will be many fans rooting for Pyro.
