The Epsom Derby has Arrived

The weekend for the Epsom Derby has finally arrived, and today the action and excitement will kick off with Ladies Day. Known for its high fashion, magnificent entertainment, fabulous facilities and thrilling racing events, the Epsom Derby Festival will be filled with thousands of spectators who have secured their tickets well in advance. But most importantly, over and above the competitions and fine dining, horse racing enthusiast have come to watch the jam packed line-up of live horse racing.

Today is known as Ladies Day, and together with giving the ladies the opportunity to show off their unique designs and most stylish outfits, the Epsom Derby has seven races with full contender fields on the opening day. The Juddmonte Diomed Stakes is a Class 1 Group 3 race that has a confirmed eight horse field, with horses such as Don’t Panic, Mia’s Boy and Young Pretender in the starting gates. Charlie Toyko, Little White Lie, Royal Power, Unshakeable and Dream Lodge can be seen in the fourteen horse contender field of the Class 2 Jeep Mile Handicap. There will he ten horses competing in the Totesport BetXtra Rose Bowl Heritage Handicap and the Group 1 Juddmonte Coronation Cup attracted no less than eleven horses. Seventeen horses have confirmed their entry into the Juddmonte Oaks Group 1 event and includes horses such as Look Here, Miracle Seeker, Sugar Mint, Chinese White and Lush Lashes. The last two races of the day are the Help For Heroes Surrey Stakes and the Tattenham Stakes Class 2 handicap which have nine and eleven contenders respectively.

The second day of the Epsom Derby is known as Derby Day, which takes place tomorrow, Saturday 7 June 2008. It also has a seven race card and includes the Totesportcasino.com Stakes with a twelve horse field; eleven horses participating in the Woodcote Stakes; and nine horses leaving the starting gates in the Princess Elizabeth Stakes. Horses such as Merlin’s Dancer, Strike Up The Band, Evens And Odds and Ocean Blaze can be seen amongst the twenty contenders for the Totesport.com Dash Heritage Handicap, while the Group 1 Vodafone Derby has seventeen entrants, including Curtain Call, Washington Irving, Frozen Fire, Maidstone Mixture, Alan Devonshire and Tajaaweed. The Northern Dancer Stakes has attracted sixteen entrants and the festival ends on a high note, with seventeen contenders entering the Prince’s Stand Stakes.

The 2008 Epsom Derby Festival will continue the tradition that was started in 1780 and offer spectators to this horse racing extravaganza an unforgettable racing experience.
