Tattersalls Horse Racing Sponsorship of Gold Cup Extended
Here has been a boost to horse racing among older horses as Tattersalls have agreed to continue their support of the Group 1 Tattersalls Gold Cup at The Curragh Racecourse until 2009. The new three year sponsorship commitment will also increase the total prize money for the Group 1 race to be increased to 300,000 euro from 2007. This is bound to ensure that the Gold Cup continues to attract the very best horses in Europe to the Curragh. The 10 furlongs contest is considered as one of the top middle distances in the international racing calendar and attracts many of Europe’s top older horses every year. It is among the highest rated races in the world.
The race course is confident that the increased prize money will attract more well known names in horse racing. A star studded line up is expected to contest this year’s race which takes place during the Boylesports Irish Guineas Festival on Sunday May 28th, and looks likely to feature the seasonal debut of World Champion Hurricane Run.
“The Tattersalls Gold Cup is very much the flagship of our worldwide sponsorship portfolio and with recent winners of the race including Montjeu, Fantastic Light, Powerscourt and Grey Swallow it was not a difficult decision to renew our commitment. The race is one of the premier Group 1 contests in Europe and the increase in prize money reflects this status.” Is the opinion of Tattersalls chairman.
