SunRay Racing Dates Released

SunRay Park Racecourse in Farmington, New Mexico, have released their 2009 horse racing schedule, which will kick off on the 17th of April and promises to be forty-four days filled with unbelievable racing action and non-stop entertainment. With SunRay Park Racecourse also being home to a casino, there is always something spectacular happening every day, and combining that with quality live horse racing, has ensured a loyal and supportive fan base that are looking forward to the coming season.

As usual, the racing season at Sun Ray Park Racecourse will be a combination of thoroughbred racing and quarter horse racing and due to increased handle during the last horse racing season, SunRay Park Racecourse has been able to increase some of the prize money considerably, with purse money in the thoroughbred horse racing being confirmed as $1.3 million for twenty-one stakes racing events. Quarter horse racing purses are also set to increase with one of the main events in this category being the New Mexico Breeders’ Futurity (Grade Three).

Some of the highlighted racing events for the season after opening day, on 17 April, is the $75,000 Russell and Helen Foutz Distaff Handicap on the 25th and the $75,000 Four Corners Senora QH Stakes on the 26th. In May, spectators can look forward to the $100,000 Jack Cole Handicap that is run on the 2nd and on the 31st, the $75,000 New Mexico Breeders’ Futurity will take place. The New Mexico Breeders’ Stakes will be taking place on the 13th of June, while the $75,000 Aztec Oaks and the $75,000 C.O. Ken Kendrick Memorial Stakes are being scheduled for the 20th. On the 27th of June, the $75,000 Dine Stakes and the $75,000 Totah TB Stakes will be hosted at the racecourse, with the 28th of June offering three noteworthy racing events, namely the $100,000 San Juan County Commissioner’s Handicap, the $75,000 Tommy “Duke” Smith QH Stakes (Grade 3) and the $75,000 New Mexico Breeders’ Association Handicap (Grade 3).

The 2009 schedule for the coming season is jam packed with exceptional racing events and with the increase in purse money, will attract many more quality horses. Spectators will find great horse racing, magnificent entertainment and endless fun opportunities from April to June, at the SunRay Park Racecourse.
