St Leger Start for Snow Fairy
The St Leger Stakes was inaugurated in 1776 and is one of the five classic and oldest thoroughbred horse racing events in Britain. It forms part of the English Triple Crown, of which the other legs of the championship are the 1 000 Guineas and Oaks, and the 2 000 Guineas and Derby. It is hosted by the Doncaster Racecourse and is an event for three-year-old fillies and colts. Run over a distance of 2 937 meters, the St Leger Stakes is a Group 1 event that is not to be missed.
It was recently announced that one of the contenders for this prestigious racing event will be Snow Fairy. After her breathtaking victory in the Irish Oaks, it is expected that this talented filly will once again excel in this race. Forty-two entries were received for the St Leger this year, which will take place on 11 September 2010. Ed Dunlop, Snow Fairy’s trainer, is confident in her capabilities, but will have to wait patiently to find out who she will be running against on the day. Numerous winning horses have been entered, with Aiden O’Brian entering several of his horses for the event.
Cape Blanco, winner of the Irish Derby, is predicted to be the greatest competition for Snow Fairy in the St Leger. His next career starts will include the Queen Elizabeth Stakes and the King George VI Stakes, which will lead up to his entry in the St Leger. O’Brian will also be entering noteworthy horses such as St Nicholas Abbey, Fencing Master, Joshua Tree, Midas Touch and At First Sight. Spectators should also be on the lookout for Theology, who is owned by Highclere Thoroughbred Racing and trained by Jeremy Noseda. A spokesman for Theology’s owners, Harry Herbert, commented: “He is in good form now and Jeremy has been training him for Glorious Goodwood next week, either to run in the Gordon Stakes or the Goodwood Cup. We are hopeful he will then continue to improve and the St Leger will certainly be a target.” Other entries have included names such as Buzzword, Rewilding, Al Zir, Ted Spread, Meeznah, Total Command, Monterosso and Dandino. Snow Fairy will most certainly be showing off her talents at the St Leger and will have to dig deep as she will come up against extremely talented counterparts.
