Gillespie County Fair Grounds Racing Season

Fredericksburg, in Texas, is a town that is steeped in history and tradition, founded by German settlers in the year 1846. Throughout the town, visitors will find wonderful attractions such as horse drawn carriage tours, museums, historic buildings, book shops, gift stores and superb restaurants that are known for their international menus and good service. One of its other attractions is the Gillespie County Fair Grounds, where live horse racing action comes to life.

The horse racing season at the Gillespie County Fair Grounds starts on the fourth of July to coincide with the Independence Day celebrations and will be hosting the July Fourth Racing Festival on Friday the 4th and Saturday the 5th of July 2008. The racing season at the Gillespie County Fair Grounds will be run over four weekends, namely the 19th and 20th of July, 9th and 10th of August and the last weekend being the 23rd and 24th of August 2008. Horse racing events at the fairgrounds include special races, thoroughbred racing, trials and quarter horse racing, of which there will be a variety of races available at the July Fourth Racing Festival.

Live horse racing will take place on both days of the July Fourth Racing Festival and will also make simulcast pari-mutuel racing available for spectators in the Race Barn, to keep an eye on other thoroughbred, quarter horse and greyhound racing taking place in other cities. Two of the highlights for the weekend are the Texas Quarter Horse Association Futurity Trails, which takes place on Friday, and the Hill Country Dash, which is being run on Saturday. The restaurant and bar facilities will provide spectators with ample refreshment and the weekend has a full schedule of attractions and entertainment for the entire family.

To celebrate the Fourth of July, and bring the first day of racing to a close, the Almost Patsy Cline Band will be playing for the dance that is to be held on outdoor pavilion, and will be accompanied by a fireworks display. Throughout the following weekends of racing, spectators will be able to look forward to a host of live bands and entertainment to liven up the moments before the racing action and to wind down from the thrill and excitement of the track.
