Charles Town Classic Stakes
The city of Charles Town is located in Jefferson County, West Virginia. It is home to a flourishing horse racing community, and everyone has been waiting in anticipation for the latest addition to the Charles Town horse racing schedule, namely the inaugural running of the Charles Town Classic Stakes. With a tempting tiered purse up for grabs, and the opportunity for older horses to shine, big names in racing have entered their horses for this magnificent event, and on Saturday, the 18th of April 2009 ten worthy competitors will enter the starting gates.
This star studded racing event for four year old horses and older, has attracted a few horse racing legends such as Commentator and Einstein to the occasion. With the tiered purse, the Charles Town Classic Stakes guarantees a purse amount of $500 000. Grade 3 competitors will be racing for $600 000, Grade 2 winners will be chasing $750 000 and the grand purse amount of $1 million, will be waiting for Grade 1 winning competitors.
Confirmed to be in the starting lineup, Commentator, Researcher and Einstein have racing enthusiasts and punters abuzz. Even though Einstein got the better of Commentator in the Clark Handicap, his performance has not been consistent. Commentator seems to be improving with age, as he has been giving dominating performances lately and matching the spectacular eight year old against the six year old Einstein is going to be a memorable event. Researcher has also been showing strong performances on the track and is said to be one of the competitors that will be challenging both Einstein and Commentator. Mast Track, My Pal Charlie and Dry Martini are also expected to be part of the field.
