All Eyes on I Want Revenge

The Wood Memorial is a Grade 1 horse racing event that will take place at the Aqueduct Racecourse on Saturday, 4 April 2009 and has a purse amount of $750 000. It is an important race as it is the final preparation event for the Kentucky Derby, for horses in New York. A competitive field of three year old contenders will be at the starting line on Saturday, but there is one horse that most spectators will have their eyes on, namely I Want Revenge.

During the running of the Gotham, I Want Revenge did not only win the event without much effort, but also set a time record of 1:42.65. Many believe that the switch to a dirt track is exactly what I Want Revenge needed as he ran an unbelievable race, proving that he was extremely comfortable on dirt. Trainer Jeff Mullens expressed his surprise and joy in regard to I Want Revenge’s victory in the Gotham by saying: “I didn’t expect him to run like that. I don’t know if it was the dirt or was it just his day or what it was. If he runs anywhere close to that I’ll be happy.”

Now with the Wood Memorial looming, everyone is wondering if I Want Revenge will be able to repeat his spectacular performance. Especially IEAH stables, who have recently bought 50% shares in this magnificent champion. I Want Revenge will have Joe Talamo in the saddle on the weekend, sharing the starting gates with Lord Justice (C.C. Lopez), Cellar Dweller (Rosie Napravnik), Atomic Rain (Joe Bravo), West Side Bernie (Stewart Elliot), Imperial Council (Edgar Prado), Just a Coincidence (John Velazquez) and Lime Rickey (Javier Castellano). Imperial Council was runner up to I Want Revenge in the Gotham and seeing them go up against each other again, will certainly see to a very exciting horse racing event. Some have commented that attention should be given to Lime Rickey, as they believe he has what it takes to cause an upset in the Wood.

But everyone will just have to be patient and wait for race day, where this spectacular group of three year olds will be delivering breathtaking racing action, and the question to I Want Revenge’s performance will finally be answered.
